In the summer of 1858, young Jedediah P. Carpenter finds himself orphaned and alone on the Oregon trail in the middle of Nebraska Territory. He also finds himself smitten with the beautiful Emma Cooper, three years his senior, who has ridden off into the morning sunrise with the despicable Zeke Jones.

Jed's will to reach his family's original destination in Oregon is hampered by his lack of survival skills and the specter of the oncoming winter. Through an unlikely true friendship with a wandering Arapaho, Pete Scares-the-Ponies, Jedediah learns and hones those skills.

Instead of heading for Oregon, though, Jed finds himself in a little mining camp called Buckskin Joe in the early days of the great Pikes Peak gold rush. His whole life takes a turn when the mysterious "Silverheels" comes to town, and he experiences a love that will carry him through 50 years of solitude and beyond... the kind of love we all seek.

Jedediah's story will draw you into the breathtaking beauty of the Rocky Mountains in the early days of the territory that became the state of Colorado. Along the way, you'll experience joy, sorrow, love, and adventure in this fictional explanation of the naming of one of Colorado's prominent mountains, Mount Silverheels.

One of the most beautiful books I've ever read. I'm an avid reader (3-4 books a week) so I do not say this lightly. Atmospheric and haunting story and brilliant writing from this author. I read the story straight through and hated to finish it; I could have read 500 more pages! Thank you, Mr. Erwin, for the magic I experienced while reading this jewel. Your descriptive prose took me on a trip through Colorado and the surrounding mountains, a place I've not visited in real life, but now feel as though I have.

Into the Snow The Testimony and Last Will of Jedediah P Carpenter (Audible Audio Edition) John Erwin Clyde Heberling 3CanMedia Inc Books Reviews

John has done an excellent job of taking one on a splendid journey into not only the mountains of this great country, but into the mind of a young man and the wonderful memories he holds so dear. I cant help but believe there's a touch of Jedediah P. Carpenter in all of us. In reading the accounts of his life, I could not help but to be taken back time and time again to an earlier time in my own life. Precious memories were rekindled as I followed Jed, "Into the Snow." Great job, my friend!
It's not often I read a book that I enjoy as much as I did this one. It was well written with interesting, well developed characters. I am sad to have finished the book, but know it will stay with me in memory for a long time.
I tend to enjoy historical fiction, and when it's this well-written, there's no comparison. I was immersed in the story throughout, and when I got to the end where it said it
a true story, I thought, "Darn! It was so good I thought it HAD to be true.". I'd definitely read other works by this author, and will recommend it to friends who like Western and Historical fiction.
This is a refreshingly original story based on well-researched historical details. I enjoyed the author's dramatic style and ability to bring the characters to life. The excitement of the Colorado gold rush, a bittersweet romance, and the quite satisfying end of a man who more than deserved his fate would make a wonderful movie. Even better would be more novels by Erwin based on some of the secondary characters in "Into The Snow."
This book was a gift, in more ways than one. Because it came from my son, I read it. It became my night time bed story,
and I purposely read only 10-12 pages a night as I found I didn't want it to end. Usually coming from a hectic day, as
most are, I was quickly transported to the mountains and blue, blue skies of Colorado....a state I almost called home in the
early '80s. I was deeply moved by the story of Jedediah and Emma, which far transcended what I thought would be a 'gold
rush' story, a subject that has never particularly interested me. And yes, I definitely see 'film' written all over it. But don't
even consider it, as it is a work in progress. Thank you, John, for such a wonderful and unique story. kc
Beautifully written story, fact & fiction wonderfully woven like a fine fabric, makes this one of the best books I've had the pleasure to read
I really did enjoy this book! It just took me back to the old West and what it was probably like during that period. I got started and could not stop reading. I know it is a fictional book, but the author really made it seem like a true story. Highly recommended for a great read.
