Recently, I had the opportunity to hear Sunny Rey read some of her poetry and to ask questions about her techniques for writing. All of the poems that she shared from her book were interesting, smooth, and kept the audience wanting to hear more. Her approach to poetry is very fun, she taught me that writing poetry does not have to be heavy. Expressing her thoughts in poetry seems to come effortlessly to Sunny. She is extremely talented and knows how to transform any situation into a poem. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, it is one that you will not want to put down!

There is something special about Sunny Rey's poetry that makes me feel connected to her words and experience. With a lot of poetry dying in today's society, Sunny Rey enlightens the literature world with her honesty, passion, rage, and sensitivity that can be shared amongst readers for years to come. Her book of poetry is a depiction of life experience on ink and paper in which the reader can gain a sense of value and appreciation. Sunny Rey came in and spoke to my class about how to overcome writers block, what inspires her to write and even read a few of her poems. I didn't really care for what she was talking about but when she began to read, she immediately spiked my interest in poetry. I had never heard poetry like hers before. I had learned that poems had to be in an ABAB rhyme scheme and had to be sad or depressing. Her writing style never seemed to rhyme but still had a flow that I did not know existed until then and inspired me to write everyday in a journal and to seek out other types of poetry. Right after her presentation was finished, I ran to my car to get money to buy a copy of her book. I absolutely had to have more content since I enjoyed hearing her read her poems so much. I am on page 83 but I do not look toward to finishing the book. It's hard enough to not put it down once I begin to read.
Finally something fresh! Been waiting a long time for someone to bring poetry back from its grave! The quotes section is a great book to pull out for quick laughs and to open up conversation when entertaining.
I bought this book because I heard Sunny Rey's work at a poetry reading in San Diego. It's so intense, putting words to emotions that most of us cannot express. If you read straight through from the beginning to the end, you can see this author's growth from teen to marriage, to young mother, to divorce, to a rebuilt life. She makes something as mundane as going to the grocery store a feast for the emotions. I hope she publishes more books in the future. I'm a fan.
Wonderful book, full of random musings, poetry full great imagery,
and personal perspectives on her experiences & suroundings.
Sunny gives the reader an intimate view, painting pictures with words,
and showing her uniqueness, as well as how much we all have in common
when it comes to certain things.
Sunny's poems are witty, gritty, and enjoyable ... she invites you in to some of her most intimate moments and you find yourself drawn to her stories of heartache, perseverance, her love for her daughter, and her search for "the one." If you like your poetry a little edgier, honest, and revealing then I would definitely get yourself a copy!
