Oh what a wonderful story! Claire is one of my favorite characters. She is written so well, and completely opens up and comes to life in this book. You see her many layers and the changes she goes through while in Scotland. I found myself cheering for her in the book, almost immediately. I wanted to see if her opinion of alcohol was going to change. I couldn't put it down. With all the humor, the interesting interactions, and the subtle revelations, I didn't want to walk away from the story. I really liked how I would think I had something figured out, but with just a few words, the truth was revealed, and it turns out I was completely wrong. Things are not always as they seem in this book, and I love that! I loved the witty banner between the characters, and it is done so well in this book. Plus all the emotion! This book has a lot of it, and it is amazing as well. I have not read the first book in the Rake Patrol series, but I most certainly will after I enjoyed this one so much. It was a fantastic read, and you can tell it was very well-researched!Tags : The Whisky Laird's Bed (Rake Patrol Book 2) - Kindle edition by Donna MacMeans. The Whisky Laird Bed Rake Patrol Book 2 edition by Donna MacMeans Romance eBooks Reviews
The history was very interesting and the romance so enticing! Be sure to add this one to your book list
This was a nice read. I wasn't it itching to pick it back up, but I wasn't trying to get it over with either. It was a nice book.
Spoiler Alert the main female character `s reassessment of her prohibition stand is believable. The plight of the alcoholic receives no attention.
A poor beleaguered owner of s distillery is confronted by a hot-headed temperance crusader who rushes off to Scotland to rescue a friend who doesn't need rescuing. If that isn't enough conflict for sparks to fly, MacMeans serves up more. Neither flood nor fire nor irate villagers nor hatchet wielding prohibitionists will stand in the way of true love. He calls her "English;" she calls him irresistible.
The book features strong characters, tight pacing, and good description. An added bonus is insight into the distillery business.
I loved the characters, not simply the male and female leads but the whole bunch.
The description of the countryside, the lifestyle and the function of distilling was interesting and made for a great backdrop for a very appealing love story.
I was very sad to see the story come to an end. Fortunately, Donna MacMeans is a very prolific writer. On to the next book.....!
This is such a great story I fell into it from the first page and didn't want to put it down the setting is beautiful and of course the hero Cameron is to die for. Cameron runs the family Whisky distillery in Scotland and when Clair an English temperance woman arrives uninvited on his dorrstep the journey begins this is a fun and very sensual story as two people with totally different views fall for each other the characters from the town enrich the story and will have you turning the pages and smiling throughout. I highly recommend this one don't miss it )
More modern, probably set in the late 19th century. A strong woman from a poor background, she has strong opinions. But what happens when you are confronte with a man who is as strong headed as you? A delight to read, no big drama but a lovely love story with obstacles and you see how the people realize you do not have to have the same opinion but you can see each other's side and understand and live with it.
